Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say early analysis show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.
A senior political figure stated the incident made him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the death of nine people by a shooter focusing on people of migrant background in February 2020.
